AN ACT CONCERNING PAID LEAVE FOR VETERANS' DAY.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2004) (a) All employers shall provide each employee who is a veteran, as defined in subsection (a) of section 27-103 of the general statutes, as amended, and subdivision (29) of section 5-196 of the general statutes, with a paid day off from work each November eleventh for the purpose of allowing such employee to participate in Veterans' Day ceremonies or activities. For purposes of this section, "employer" means any person engaged in business who has employees, including the state and any political subdivision of the state, and "employee" means any person engaged in service to an employer in the business of the employer.
(b) It shall be a violation of subsection (a) of this section for any employer to discharge or cause to be discharged or in any other manner discriminate, against any employee because the employee has exercised the rights afforded to the employee under subsection (a) of this section.
