AN ACT PROMOTING FIRE INSURANCE LOSS PREVENTION.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2003) (a) No person may sell or offer for sale a package of cigarettes unless such package contains a disposable ashtray. As used in this section, "person", "sell", "sale" and "cigarette" shall have the meanings set forth in section 12-285 of the general statutes.

(b) Any person who violates this section shall be fined not less than fifty dollars or more than one hundred dollars for each violation.

This act shall take effect as follows:

Statement of Purpose:

To reduce the incidence of loss under fire insurance policies by requiring all cigarette packages sold in this state to contain a disposable ashtray.
